Meet your Hosts!

Hi!  We’re Nancy Reid and Bob McDowell, your hosts at Villa Calista! 

We hope you enjoy your stay at our home in Crete and come to love the island as much as we do.

 We live on the east coast of Canada, but spend most of the winter in our beloved Crete.  We are both avid history buffs (Nancy is a retired Greco-Roman archaeologist), travelers, and animal lovers. 

 We are having the time of our lives exploring all Crete has to offer and as we discover new and intriguing places we’ll share them with you here or on our FaceBook page.

Fostering Cretan dogs gives us a wonderful sense of fulfillment and an opportunity to give back to our community.  These beautiful little pups and their mum stayed with us for 3 months before finding loving forever homes in Germany.  We're happy to share information on donating to either the Souda Shelter Project or Cretan Animal Protection.

​​Meet ZEKE, a beautiful young Cretan Hunting Hound we fostered and then sent on to a new home in Denmark, with the help of the Souda Shelter Project. Zeke is pictured here high on Drapanos Mountain!
